Writing a List, Checking it Twice

The Holidays are coming. If you’re like me, every year I try to think of new, fun ideas for gifts. This year, I’ve prepared an online list of websites to shop that will show how much you care about wildlife.

Some of these listings promote and support wildlife when you buy, some are commercial, retail sites, some offer discounts and one is free!

1. Dancing Frog Designs
http://www.nbn.com/~harris/dancing frog/indes.html
For those who admire handcrafts, this company sells beautiful kites. I found it listed on under our own “Froggy Page” link.

2. Turtle Trax
Kids-Want to create a masterpiece for your parents? Go to
http://www.turtles.org/kids.htm.
This is the Turtle Trax coloring page. Print out a drawing that you can color and present to your family and friends, best of all, it’s free.

3. World Wildlife Fund
Consider giving a gift subscription to a local chapter of an organization that supports wildlife and habitat preservation, in our links section, you’ll find dozens of them that you can look through to determine which would be appropriate, check the World Wildlife Fund http://www.wwf.com if you want to become a member that supports threatened and endangered species of animals. You can also give your time to a local organization, start the new year with a commitment and a pledge to do something.

4. Make a donation of money or land to a conservation cause, you can do this in someone’s name or anonomously. One group in our links section that preserves natural habitat in New Jersey is The Nature Conservancy, at http://www.tnc.com

5. New Jersey Audubon, at http://www.nj.com/audobon/index/outline.html. Shop the nature shop, when you become a member, you get discounts on CD reference materials, videos, binoculars and much more.

6. National Audubon, at http://www.audubon.org/market/licensed. The National Audubon sports a selection of gifts under Books and Gifts. You’ll find Calendars and tapes. Here’s another tip. National Audubon offers members the ability to obtain a credit card and to order checks wirh a conscience. These credit cards and checks support National Audubon when you use them. (All products sold here are through approved vendors).

7. Amazon.com. BOOKS! Order the NJ Wildlife Viewing Guide and other books about wildlife preservation at a discount price.

8. The Nature Store, at http://thenaturestore.com. A retail, commercial site. Here you’ll find jewelry, T-shirts, gifts, birdfeeders, books, clocks, tile oak boxes and handpainted Christmas ornaments.

9. International Otter Survival Fund, at http://www.smo.vhi-ac.uk. This is an international site featuring gifts, books and toys

10. The Cousteau Society, at http://www.cousteau.org/an/books.html. Books for the Marine lovers in your life.
