Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge, Leeds Point, Atlantic
County
Perhaps better known as the Brigantine
Wildlife Refuge, this coastal sanctuary is a
stopover--and sometimes home--for many migratory birds,
most notably the snow geese that winter here. It offers
quite a contrast to the glowing casino skyline of
Atlantic City, which can be seen from the refuge. Access
is easy from either the Garden State Parkway or Route 9,
just north of Atlantic City through Leeds Point. The
eight-mile drive around the refuge allows for comfortable
viewing of the resident wildlife, which seem to be
unfazed by human visitors. Spring, summer, and fall are
all good times for a visit. Be sure to bring your
binoculars for the best viewing.
