10 Most Beautiful Places in New Jersey
Photographs and text by Walter Choroszewski

Island BeachIsland Beach State Park, Berkeley Township, Ocean County

From Seaside Park to Barnegat Inlet, the thin strand of white-sand beach and rolling dunes named Island Beach State Park is best known as a summer day-trip spot along the Jersey Shore. It is, after all, the longest stretch of public shoreline in New Jersey. I love the park for its natural beauty, and prefer to visit in the off-season. The dunes and wetlands on the southern end of the island are home to an abundant variety of coastal flora and fauna. I enjoy doing aerial photography, and as I look down at Island Beach State Park from a helicopter, I can truly appreciate the fragile strength of this barrier island facing the Atlantic.
